At Kanoa, we think that can be better.

We are actively developing a new Factory Maintenance solution for Kanoa MES, designed to bring maintenance management directly into the same platform manufacturers already use to manage operations.

This solution is being built as a fully Ignition-native CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System), running entirely within the Ignition and Kanoa MES environments. That means manufacturers can manage maintenance workflows without introducing another system—while still benefiting from the flexibility, scalability, and openness that Ignition is known for.

Why we’re building it

The need for a tightly integrated maintenance solution has come up repeatedly in conversations with manufacturers. Many teams evaluating standalone CMMS platforms find that while those systems can handle maintenance workflows, they introduce another silo into an already fragmented plant software stack.

We see an opportunity to approach this differently.

By building CMMS directly into Kanoa MES, we can deliver maintenance capabilities that align naturally with production, quality, and plant operations—without requiring additional infrastructure or disconnected systems.

An Ignition-native approach to CMMS

This solution is designed from the ground up to operate within the Ignition ecosystem.

That brings several practical advantages:

  • Unified platform: Maintenance workflows operate within the same environment as your operational systems—no separate application stack required.
  • Unlimited licensing model: Consistent with Ignition’s approach, there are no per-seat or per-device licensing constraints limiting how broadly the system can be used across your organization.
  • Extensible and customizable by design: Built on Ignition, the solution can be extended, adapted, and tailored to fit specific plant workflows without being locked into rigid structures.
  • Native integration with the Ignition ecosystem: Easily integrate maintenance workflows with other Ignition capabilities, such as:
    • Web Dev for ERP or external system integration
    • Notification pipelines for alerts (email, SMS, etc.)
    • Tag and event-driven architectures for real-time plant context
  • Aligned with existing Kanoa MES architecture: For teams already using Kanoa MES, maintenance becomes part of the same operational model rather than a separate tool.

This approach is especially well-suited for manufacturers who value flexibility, control over their systems, and the ability to evolve their software alongside their operations.

What the initial release is focused on

Our initial phase is centered on delivering a production-ready maintenance system with strong core functionality and tight alignment to the Kanoa MES architecture.

The MVP scope currently includes:

Asset and equipment management

Definition and management of physical assets, equipment, and locations, with support for hierarchical asset structures to enable scalable maintenance tracking.

Maintenance work order management

Creation and lifecycle management of maintenance work orders, including prioritization, scheduling, assignment, execution tracking, and technician feedback.

Labor and activity tracking

Logging of technician labor hours and capture of work performed and observations during maintenance activities.

Inventory and parts usage

Visibility into maintenance-related parts inventory and tracking of parts consumption against work orders.

Mobile-optimized user experience

Interfaces designed for tablets and mobile devices, enabling technicians to create, manage, and complete work orders in the field.

Reporting and operational visibility

Insight into maintenance execution, including work order status, labor utilization, maintenance workload, and metrics such as mean time to repair.

Current timeline

We are actively developing the solution now and are planning a public beta release in late Q2, with incremental builds leading up to that milestone.

This effort is being shaped in collaboration with existing Kanoa customers who are providing design feedback and working with early builds as the solution evolves. That collaboration is helping ensure the product reflects real-world maintenance workflows in production environments.
