Get up and running with Kanoa MES—step by step.
We’re excited to introduce the Kanoa Ops Basic Training Tutorial Series, now live on YouTube.
This new microlearning video series is designed to help Systems Integrators and Manufacturing Engineers confidently deploy Kanoa Ops in Ignition environments. Whether you're configuring a customer pilot, setting up a training environment, or starting your first factory rollout, this series provides the hands-on walkthroughs you need to get started fast—and right.
Each short, focused tutorial walks through real-world implementation scenarios using the latest versions of Kanoa Ops and Ignition. You’ll learn how to install the system, configure core components, connect PLC data, and simulate live production—all without writing custom code.
Systems Integrators preparing for on-site deployments or customer demos
Manufacturing Engineers responsible for MES implementation or testing
Internal teams learning the ropes in a sandbox or training setup
Anyone setting up their first Kanoa Ops instance and looking for best practices
These videos aren’t just feature overviews—they’re step-by-step guides designed to help you build a working system you can learn from, scale, and deploy.
The first five videos in the series are now available, covering everything from installation to running your first production job.
Before you can configure anything in Kanoa Ops, your Ignition environment needs to be properly prepared. This video covers:
Setting up your SQL Server database and connecting it via kanoaCore
Creating the Kanoa tag provider
Installing required modules: Apex Charts, BIJC Calendar, and the Kanoa MES module
Completing your first login and verifying system readiness
Ideal for new installations and trial setups, this tutorial ensures your foundation is clean, correct, and ready for configuration using Ignition 8.1.48 and Kanoa MES 1.11.27.
Everything in Kanoa starts with a well-structured asset model. This lesson guides you through:
Creating your full Enterprise → Site → Area → Line → Cell hierarchy
Enabling OEE tracking on selected assets
Defining Modes (like Production or Downtime) and States (Running, Idle, Faulted)
Mapping PLC tags to these states for live condition monitoring
Whether you're configuring a single line or a global network of facilities, this structure is the backbone of your operational visibility.
Next, define what your factory produces—and where.
This tutorial shows how to:
Create Item Classes (product families) and Items (specific SKUs)
Link items to OEE-enabled assets so Kanoa knows what’s running where
Configure standard and scheduled production rates for accurate performance measurement
Set up infeed/outfeed tracking, waste units, and packaging metrics
This is where your MES starts becoming production-aware, connecting your output data directly to performance analytics.
Once your assets and items are defined, it’s time to bring in live data.
This lesson shows how to:
Use the assetOEE
UDT to enable tracking of state, count, and speed
Map real PLC tags via the assetInputs
UDT to bring live machine data into Kanoa
Simulate behavior with the assetSimulator
for test environments
Use memory tags for manual testing or input where automation isn’t yet live
Whether you're prepping for a live deployment or building a virtual demo system, this video gives you the tools to connect real-time events to your MES layer.
With configuration complete and data flowing, this tutorial walks you through a full test run:
Setting a default dashboard for your user profile
Initializing your line into the right operating mode
Manually starting a production run with a linked item
Simulating real-time data for state and count
Ending the run and reviewing OEE performance results
This is the transition point—from setup to operation. Whether you're in a sandbox or testing for a pilot rollout, this lesson helps validate your system end-to-end.
We designed Kanoa Ops to be composable, fast to deploy, and easy to configure—without custom code. But we know getting started with any MES platform can be daunting. This series removes the guesswork by walking you through each major setup milestone with clarity and context.
It’s hands-on training in the format modern engineers prefer: short, focused, and directly tied to real-world use cases.
